The Problem
Approximately 15% of all adoptions result in the animal being returned to the shelter.* This statistic doesn’t even account for dogs who are rehomed, come back as strays, or are sent to a rescue organization.
There is a lot of help after a dog starts having problems in a home. That’s typically when dog trainers get a call or… when a dog is rehomed or sent back to the shelter/rescue.
There is a gap between what is needed and what is available to dog adopters to get them through the hardest phase of adoption…the first 3 months!

About the Creator
Kimie Mueller
Rescue dog mom, dog trainer, shelter volunteer and Founder of Dog Life Inc., Dog Training Company.
With over 13 years experience as a dog trainer, Kimie Mueller has dedicated her life to helping dogs… and their humans.
She recently had the incredible opportunity to learn from the Dogs Playing for Life team at their headquarters in Florida.
Kimie has trained dogs both privately and as a volunteer at local shelters. Her experience training dogs, both in the shelter and after they leave the shelter has given her a unique perspective of the hurdles facing shelter dogs, before and after being adopted.
Kimie developed this program because she has a passion, specifically to help shelters and rescues reduce the number of dogs returned due to common issues that can be avoided or easily managed in the first 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 months after adopting.
“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.”

Hi, I’m Kimie! I’ve been passionate about animals since I can remember, sneaking stray cats home in my backpack and following the stray neighborhood dog and feeding it bologna until it trusted me. I have a long history of feeling connected to animals and being compelled to help them. I studied vet medicine for 4 years only to realize my heart needed to help animals in a different way. I didn’t know what that looked like yet, but the next events helped me get there. I’ve been volunteering as a dog trainer at local shelters for a few years now and the reality of the shelter overpopulation crisis is absolutely devastating. Not only have we lost so many incredible, adoptable dogs which is so heartbreaking in itself, but I also see the toll it has taken on so many incredible people. Dedicated volunteers, shelter staff, rescue teams, networkers etc., all exhausted and emotionally broken after an unprecedented and unrelenting influx of dogs, flooding shelters with seemingly no end in sight. To all of you fighting the fight, day in and day out, you have my sincere gratitude.
My Story…
I’ve always been known as the animal person in friend groups and at my early non animal related jobs. In 2008, I agreed to help a co-worker with her dog. The dog ended up attacking me and sending me to the hospital for 5 days. He broke my arm in 2 places and bit up both arms and legs pretty badly. It took me over 6 months to physically recover from the injuries. I knew I’d recover physically, what I didn’t expect was the PTSD. I was all of a sudden debilitatingly afraid of dogs, even if I knew the dog already, but only at random times.
I was NOT about to give up my passion for dogs, so instead I started to study dog behavior. I started to understand what dogs were thinking and “trying to tell me” with their body language and I felt like I learned another language. I learned to “speak dog”. It was incredible. I wasn’t afraid anymore, I was excited! A whole new world opened up to me. I knew I had found my calling. Helping dogs (and helping people understand their dogs), became my passion.
I have lived in the dog world ever since, using this passion in building a business with my sister that included dog walking, pet sitting, dog training, pack hikes and adventures, eventually opening a doggy daycare, bed and breakfast, grooming, and training facility. I have learned from 1000’s of dogs and their people, in so many scenarios and settings. I have developed from every experience and interaction and I have learned several ways to help people ease their frustrations and build amazing relationships with “man’s best friend”.My “Why”…
It feels hopeless at times. But we can’t stop trying. We have to fight for these animals who can’t speak for themselves. I believe we all have something within us to contribute, so for me, I have been lending my training skills. But I wanted to reach more than just the dogs at the shelters where I volunteer. So, I developed the Dog Adoption Success Program, not only for the shelter dogs but for the amazing humans who dedicate their lives to helping shelter dogs everywhere.
